Points of Light is looking for groups or individuals to perform dance, music, spoken word, theatre, or other stage performances at outdoor festival.

Lowell’s Points of Light Cultural Celebration Committee is seeking individuals and groups to perform from 5 pm to the 8 pm lantern launch on Saturday, May 11. These performances could be from five to fifteen minutes long. This is a perfect way to perform in front of an audience of hundreds!

The Committee is looking for performances that…

  • Draw and excite a crowd
  • Reflect a cultural or ethnic heritage or tradition
  • Consist of a diverse array of people from many backgrounds and perspectives

If more performers than time slots are available apply, the committee will select performances that meet a broad range of the above criteria. Just a few examples of the types of performances we’re looking for:

  • A modern dance crew performing a set
  • An individual or a group doing poetry reading
  • A band or orchestra class
  • A school or after-school group
  • One scene of an upcoming or recent play or musical
  • A group performing a traditional dance
  • Singers performing an acapella or accompanied song

There will be a small outdoor stage suitable for small groups or individuals, a larger brick area suitable for instrumental groups or dancers, and a sound system and lights. Performers should be ready for chilly weather, as the event takes place in May. All performances must be family-friendly. Performers may request a certain time between 5 pm and 8 pm if they have limited availability.

Several performances will be selected by the committee. Small stipends may be available depending on the nature of the performance. If interested, please contact Chris and Laura at hello@pointsoflightlowell.com with a statement of interest outlining the type of performance, am optional link to your work (video, instagram, etc.) if available, and/or questions.

This is an open call that closes on February 16, 2023.
